As Director of Marketing & Operations for MIT Sloan Management Review, Deb oversees all marketing for the journal, including site audience development, subscriptions, licensing, reprints and permissions, and marketing in support of advertising/sponsorship sales. She also directs digital strategy, and manages finances and operations. She has been with MIT SMR for 9 years. Deb has over 25 years experience in marketing and strategic planning for publishers. Prior to MIT SMR she spent 10 years with Inc. magazine, where she rose from Circulation Director to Director of Marketing for all of Inc.’s content products, including seminars, conferences, books, subscriptions, and custom marketing projects.

Before Inc., Deb was a vice president with Lighthouse Communications, where she consulted with major consumer magazines across the US, helping them to develop and analyze their marketing efforts, and training them to use circulation modeling to project their subscription financials and circulation levels.

Deb previously served in circulation and marketing positions with Boston-area publishers and advertising agencies.

When Technology Review's Jason Pontin called publishers' love of apps a "delusion," he joined other skeptics wondering if the time and expense of app development is really worth it, especially if the future lies with HTML5 and the mobile Web.
While some are moving beyond the "walled garden" approach of the app marketplace, others see it as the best cure for the discoverability challenge. This panel will examine the viability of apps in today's market.
